Shopify stores in the United States — 605k, mostly a tail

Why the mean lies
Averages here are pulled up by Barnes & Noble, Gymshark (US-tagged in this snapshot), Alo, and a few other fat heads. The median $8/mo is the store you actually hit if you sample at random. Filter on visits or revenue before you treat a US list as a market.
Where the 605k actually sit
Active cut (≥500 visits/mo). Apparel is the longest list (18,183). Outdoor gear is shorter (3,937) but averages 15.4k visits — more attention per shop than apparel's 12.4k. Electronics still books the most modeled revenue in this cut ($999M/mo across 15,373 stores).
Source: EcomScout catalog, pulled 2026-09-04. GET /v1/stores?countryCode=US&groupBy=vertical&minVisits=500. storeCount = shops in that vertical that clear the floor. Mean visits/revenue are of those shops, not the unfiltered 605k.
The head of the US list
These are not dropship tests. If a US list comes back with these domains, you filtered wrong — or you asked for traffic instead of a niche you can sell into.

What US searchers type
Ahrefs US: “shopify stores” is 23k/mo (KD 33). “dropshipping suppliers” is 11k/mo and hard (KD 72, $2.50 CPC). “shopify store list” is only 60 — people want the catalog, they do not search that phrase. We rank for the job, not the exact head term.
| Query | Vol / mo | KD | CPC |
|---|---|---|---|
| shopify stores | 23,000 | 33 | $2.50 |
| dropshipping suppliers | 11,000 | 72 | $2.50 |
| shopify competitors | 1,300 | 7 | $3.00 |
| shopify store list | 60 | 5 | $0.90 |

Asks that cut the tail
Do not ask for “US stores.” Ask for a floor.
“United States skincare, 10k–80k monthly visits, email on file, not a marketplace.”
“US outdoor gear that cut price ≥20% this month, Instagram present.”
“Sellers of a neck fan on US Shopify, dropship flag, price range.”
How the numbers were calculated
- Country totals: Neonjelly
get_countries/GET /v1/analytics/countries. Dropship % =round(1000 × dropshippers / stores) / 10. - Vertical bars:
GET /v1/stores?countryCode=US&groupBy=vertical&minVisits=500. Floor drops parked shops.(unclassified)omitted from charts.storeCountis shops that clear the floor, not the unfiltered country total. - Mean vs median modeled revenue: catalog fields on the unfiltered country row. A fat head (US $15.6k mean / $8 median) is why we print both when the gap is the story.
- Keyword tables: Ahrefs Keywords Explorer, country-local Google volume (12-month average), KD 0–100, CPC in USD (API returns cents; we divide by 100). Pulled 2026-09-04. We do not invent volumes.
